South African Airways is the official flag carrier of South Africa

These hubs are different from direct flights in that they are the stop over points for its airplanes that are to make international flights out of the country.
Additionally, South African Airways also maintains two focus cities located at the Cape Town International Airport and the King Shaka International Airport. These are take off points for non-stop and direct flights to other countries.
South African Airways currently operates 50 airplanes composed of 11 Airbus A319-100s, 6 Airbus A340-200s, 6 Airbus A340-300s, 9 Airbus A340-600s. 17 Boeing 737-800s, and 1 Boeing 747-400. Additionally, the airline is has made an order of 20 Airbus A320-200s and 6 A440-200s. This will increase the fleet size to 76 when the orders will have been delivered.
With its 50 airplanes, the airline serves domestic flights to five destinations and international flights to 32 destinations in 26 countries encompassing 6 continents. This makes the airline one of only nine that serve the six continents except Antarctica which is uninhabited.
SAA flights cover 18 countries in Africa, 2 in North America, 2 in South America, 2 in Asia, 2 in Europe, and 1 in Australasia. Furthermore, it is also a member of the famed Star Alliance, which is the first and largest airline alliance in the whole world.
