All Horse Racing Winners Have One Thing in Common, They are Ready to Run
All Horse Racing Winners Have One Thing in Common
, They are Ready to Run
I realize that the title of this horse racing article sounds a bit simplistic, or perhaps obvious, but ask yourself this, "If every horse who ever won a horse race was ready to win, how then do horses win at long odds?"
No matter where you go there will always be seasoned handicappers who are picking winners and looking at each horse and its past performances. If experienced handicappers aren't always right, then what are they missing and more importantly, how can you spot what they don't see?
Well obviously, one of the first possibilities to be considered is that there are is than one horse in the race who appears to be ready to win or at least ready to run a good race. In some races, with better quality horses, it is almost certain that there will be many horses who appear to have a good chance. If there are five horses who have recently shown the ability to compete at today's class level, then they can't all be the favorite. Therefore, there will almost certainly be a horse going off at substantial odds despite the fact that the horse has shown it a possible winner.
When this situation occurs, smart handicappers almost always pass on the favorite and bet one or more of the other contenders who appear to have a chance to win. It is a matter of finding value in the race. If you are trying to make money by betting on horses, then your job is to find a race with multiple contenders and then to shop for value in the pools.
It sounds easy at first, but if it was easy many more people would be able to make money playing the horses, but such is not the case. If you are looking for value, you have to compare recent performance to odds and try to calculate the actual odds of any of the contenders of winning. On the other hand, there is a situation that I often find while handicapping the races for my subscribers. It is when I find a race with just one fit and ready horse, what I call a single fit and ready horse. Believe it or not, this situation occurs at almost every track at least once a day and sometimes several times a day.
The single fit and ready horse is, in my opinion, one of the best bets in horse racing and eliminates the necessity of comparing contenders and trying to assign fair value odds.
