It is further divided into two types that are triangulation and cell identification.

In triangulation method, the angle of mobile from a fixed station is used to track a cell phone, whereas, a dedicated software is used to determine the position of a cell phone in cell identification method.

Tracking from the Handset: This technology requires tracking software to be installed in the physical device to be able to be tracked. The tracking mechanism involves the cell identification methodology and the strength of the signals. This requires support from the mobile owner as well because the installation of dedicated software is must to track and locate a cell phone. The cooperation from network service providers is also desired as they software records the calls and messages, only the service providers then are entitled to receive the encrypted data and decode it.
