Natural gas has been around for hundreds of years and has become a very helpful substance in our lives and our economy

. Long ago, the Chinese found that the energy in natural fossil fuels could be captured and used to heat water. In the early days, it was mostly used to light streetlamps, and some homes. However, with today's advancements in technological, fossil fuels are being consumed in ways that where never thought possible.

What is natural gas? It is considered to be a very uninteresting gas because it is colorless, shapeless, and odorless in its pure form. Although, it is combustible with a mixture of hydrocarbon gases, and when burned it releases a significant amount of energy. Unlike most fossil fuels, natural gas burns clean and emits low levels of potentially harmful substances into the environment. While this fuel is composed primarily of methane, it can also incorporate ethane, propane, butane and pentane. In our daily lives, we require energy continually, to heat our homes, to cook with, and generate electricity. Because of this need for energy, natural fossil fuels has become extremely significant in our society today.

This amazing fossil fuel provides energy for many our day to day needs and activities. It is mostly divided into four sectors, residential, commercial, industry and electrical power. Natural gas is one of the least expensive forms of energy that is available to the residential consumer. The best uses of this fossil fuel around the house are with heating and cooking. Similarly, commercial uses include heating, water heating, and cooling. In the restaurant industry and other establishments that require cooking, this fossil fuel is a well liked choice to fulfill these needs. The third sector, industry, is the largest consumer of this natural fuel using it for products and machinery. Fourth, is for use of electric generation. Because it burns clean, it has become a very accepted fuel for the production of electricity.

The government for safety reasons regulates certain aspects of natural fossil fuels. The United States regulation of the fossil fuel industry has in the past been a turbulent ride, resulting in remarkable changes in the industry over at least the past 30 years. In recent times, aggressive forces are being upheld more seriously to determine market structure and operation of this fossil fuel; however, it has not always been this way. Nearly all aspects of the natural gas industry were controlled at one, which led to remarkable difficulties in the industry, including shortages like the one in the1970s.

There is a large amount of natural gas in North America, but because it is a non renewable resource, a formation that takes thousands and possibly millions of years to create, will eventually run out. Therefore, it is important to conserve as much of it as possible because we cannot make more of it once it is out. To use your household gas wisely be sure to cook with care, take short showers, turn down the heat, let the sun shine in to heat the house in the winter, insulate your house, and replace heating system filters often. Not only will these steps help to conserve energy, but also they will help lower your energy bills. Who doesn't want to save money?
