Alternative Christmas Meats

With Christmas just around the corner it is time to start thinking about those mouth-watering Christmas meals

. From Christmas dinner to the masses of delicious turkey based meals, it is time to really start planning your menus. If you have yet to decide which meat you will be serving over the Christmas period, here are our top tips for putting together the perfect festive feast.

Turkey is the obviously choice for Christmas meal, the classic meat makes its way onto the tables of hungry families all around the world and we do not hear many people complaining! Turkey is a very versatile meat and once you have had your fill on Christmas day, the leftovers are ideal for sandwiches, curries and stir fries.

If turkey is not your thing why not treat yourself to a succulent beef joint this Christmas. Roast beef is perfect for slicing and eating hot along with all of your traditional Christmas trimmings. Just like turkey, beef can be kept for Boxing Day sandwiches, add some English mustard and you will definitely be in the holiday spirit!

For something a little different, a leg of lamb is a great choice for an alternative Christmas dinner. Although lamb is typically associated with Easter a roast lamb dinner with rosemary and mint is a truly fantastic way to celebrate the end of the year. Serve with mashed potatoes and plenty of veg for a dinner that is worth celebrating.

Non-meat eaters still have plenty of options for the Christmas season. A nice piece of salmon is perfect served with new potatoes and winter greens. If you have ever spent the holidays in Australia you will know that a true Aussie festive feast is more like a beach bbq. Salmon, shrimp and plenty of fresh salad is the order of the day however if you do not have the Aussie weather, salmon fillets are a perfect alternative. For vegetarians, a nut roast is a great choice for Christmas dinner along with tofu.

Cooking your Christmas dinner should be a pleasure, not a chore. If you are raring to go, why not organise for your food to be delivered to your home? This saves any trips to the supermarket close to the Christmas period, as we all know how stressful these can be. Enjoy the festive period and try something new this year, with so much choice you can even have a different meat for each day over the holidays.
