Alternative Therapists Believe That Colon Hydrotherapy Can Help Weight Loss
Today, alternative therapies are widely recognized as being useful
. These include massage therapy, naturopathy, Chelation therapy, acupuncture, and homeopathy. This article will highlight colon hydrotherapy, which is also known as colon therapy, colon irrigation and colon cleansing.
The main principle of alternative treatments is that the body is designed to be healthy naturally. This is facilitated through its own ability to bring about healing. If the body suffers with an illness or other dysfunction, alternative therapy can kick start the body's self-healing mechanism.
The aim of colon hydrotherapy is to free the intestinal tract and the colon of toxins and feces. An enema is used to inject a solution into the colon via the anus. The solution usually comprises of water with added herbs. Many practitioners also believe that coffee is an outstanding colon cleaner.
Alternative therapists believe that colon therapy can also help weight loss. If the colon is clean and healthy, weight can be lost and it can stay off. If the colon is not functioning correctly, they believe that a person can gain weight.
They also maintain that this therapy is an excellent method of detoxification. In the process, the colon is rejuvenated and it will stay healthy. Furthermore, alternative practitioners believe that the therapy can prevent the re-occurrence of an illness. The patient will be required to use natural health products combined with colon therapy.
Alternative therapists respect the role of traditional medicine in many fields. Two of particular note are life-saving procedures and the work done in trauma units. But they hold on to the belief that numerous serious health problems can be prevented with alternative therapies.
They also believe that traditional medical healthcare professionals and alternative practitioners should work side by side. From the medical aspect, there is no scientific proof that colon cleansing is necessary. The logic being that the bowl is able to clean itself, unless it is affected by drugs or illness.
On the other side of the fence, a study was conducted in 1993 by the New England Journal of Medicine. It was established that, of the people surveyed, one third said they would prefer alternative treatment over traditional medicine. This result is a clear indication of what the public thought at that time.
Regarding colon hydrotherapy, the FDA regulates the equipment used for the procedure. It does not however control how it is used, or the ingredients of the solution. It has been reported that the FDA has warned some suppliers and manufacturers of colon cleansing equipment about violations of quality control, untrue claims of efficacy, and safety aspects.
