Location: AmaravathiCrocodile Farm is located in Coimbatore.Amaravathi River is tributary of kaveri. The Amaravathi Sagar Crocodile Farm, Established in 1976, the largest Crocodile nursery in India, is One km. before the Amaravathi dam site.
Variety: Across world there are 21 varieties of Crocodiles live. In India there exists only 3(Three) types.

Mugger and Garials are the mostly found varieties in India. Mugger Crocodiles are medium to large crocodiles depending on the subspecies and range in size from 5.9 to 13 feet. The mugger crocodile is a freshwater crocodile and can be found in lakes, rivers, and marshes where the water is slow-moving and shallow. They can also live in reservoirs, irrigation canals, and other manmade bodies of freshwater.
Food: Mugger crocodiles are very social and territorial. They are carnivorous and mainly feed on fish, frogs, crustaceans, birds, mammals, and other reptiles. They can also chase prey on land for short distances. As the crocodiles grow their food consumption also increases. The bigger crocodiles consume different varieties such as birds, monkeys etc and frequency of small intake reduce. The average consumption of food by the Crocodiles is approximately 25 kg of meat per day.

Need of the time:
Crocodiles are natural predators and scavengers. They belong to the endangered species variety. The crocodiles are dwindling at the verge of extinction. Amaravathi Crocodile Bank has 97 crocs of age ranging from 6 months to 30 yrs. There is a decline in the number of crocodile for various reasons such as insufficient food, improper breeding method, vertinery expenses which are mainly due to lack of funds. Conservation of crocodile is a major objective of this farm. The Amaravathi crocodile farm is charging a minimal of 50ps which is a peanut for the quantity of food required for the fittest survival of this species. The present situation of the farm is threatening to the survival of crocodiles. This may lead to a great loss of the farm as well as their major objective. The major objective conservation of crocs is possible only with the support and contribution from individuals and organizations that will help to manage this farm. Right Action at Right Time is immediately required to save this farm and save the endangered species.
