Ambassador Bridge Company donates suite for Detroit Red Wings to benefit Detroit Cristo Rey High School
When the puck drops Sunday at Joe Louis Arena, some young fans will have a fantastic view for cheering on the Detroit Red Wings and stars Nicklas Lidstrom, Pavel Datsyuk, and Henrik Zetterberg. They will be watching from the suite of the Ambassador Bridge Company.
The Ambassador Bridge Company donates its suite to worthwhile causes throughout the NHL season. On Sunday April 3rd, it was donated to benefit Detroit Cristo Rey High School.
This is the second year that the Ambassador Bridge Company has donated the suite to benefit Detroit Cristo Rey High School.
This year the school sold the entire suite to the Catholic Central Dad's Club. More than $5,000 in proceeds will help Detroit Cristo Rey's unique religious based co-op education program.
"It's a great opportunity for people to have fun, learn about our school and support our students," said Detroit Cristo Rey President Michael Khoury. "We have a good relationship with the Ambassador Bridge Company and we're very grateful for the support that we've received."
Khoury will have an opportunity to speak to the crowd during one of the game's intermissions and share the mission of Detroit Cristo Rey High School.
Detroit Cristo Rey High School students spend four days each week in the classroom and take advantage of extracurricular opportunities throughout Detroit.
The Corporate Work Study Program complements the school's academic program with one day per week of real-life work experience.
"The Ambassador Bridge Company and Detroit Cristo Rey High School have an ongoing partnership that we've found to be mutually beneficial," said Dan Stamper, president of the Ambassador Bridge Company. "Eight of their students are employed at affiliate companies to support the Detroit Cristo Rey work-study program. It has been a win-win for the students and for our companies."
The Ambassador Bridge is the busiest international border crossing in North America, with about 4.2 million cars and 2.3 million trucks using the bridge in 2009. The Detroit International Bridge Co., based in Warren, Mich., owns and operates the bridge.
