Amboise - Things To Do And See In This Beautiful Town In The Loire Valley

, Amboise is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the Loire Valley, France. The Loire valley is known world-wide as a premier wine region and boasts many magnificent Chateaux.

Amboise itself offers many interesting cultural and historic attractions. Here are five must-see monuments.

The Htel de Ville Museum

The Hotel de Ville was originally constructed in 1500 by Pierre Morin, the mayor of Tours. In the 1700s, the structure became the palace for exiled Duke de Choiseul. It was the prison for Emir Abd-el-Kader in 1848, and in the twentieth century came to house municipal offices. The Hotel de Ville is a museum today.

The Royal Castle

The Chateau d"Amboise was the first residence of the French Renaissance. It's chapel houses the tomb of Leonardo De Vinci. The chateau is open to visitors year-round and offers a preferred pass for tourists and residents who want to make multiple visits during the year and attend the numerous special events.

Luc Castle - Parc Leonardo da Vinci

One of the historic gems of Amboise, this park contains some of the masterworks of Leonardo including Leonardo's garden, 16 machines gantes, 8 bornes sonores and 32 canvases. Open year-round.

The Pagode de Chanteloup

La Pagode de Chanteloup, just outside of Amboise, offers a panoramic view of the Loire Valley. The grounds offer great picnicking under shade trees and several pleasant walk paths. The Pagoda, built in 1775, is 44 meters high.

The Bell Tower

This fifteenth century bell tower is situated on the banks of the Amasse river. A mill was installed in the eighteenth century. Under Charles VII it became the entryway into Amboise. In 1500, public funds were used to install a clock. This charming and historic edifice can be seen from several vantage points in the city.

Amboise offers many other cultural opportunities. There are many smaller chateaux that offer wine tasting. Gastronomic culture can be experienced in the local farmer's markets that happen daily in the main square. Restaurants cater to many tastes from traditional country French cooking to more formal Parisian style food.

Sporting events are also prevalent. Rugby enthusiasts can attend the annual springtime Balle Ovale. Cycling is another popular sport in the region of the Loire Valley.
