Situated just outside Amboseli National, famous for its vistas of Mount Kilimanjaro and tremendous elephant herds, Tortilis Camp sits in one of the few remaining areas of unspoilt woodland. Shaded by a natural forest of Acacia Tortilis thorn trees, the charming, rustic camp consists of 16 spacious en-suite makuti-covered tents, elegantly decorated in an African chic style. Included is a main bedroom with stunning wooden flooring, an en-suite with hot running water, stone floors and shower, and a spacious veranda, perfect for sitting out on an evening and enjoying the impressive views of Kilimanjaro in the distance.
Experience the fantastic wildlife viewing opportunities a Kenyan safari has to offer with a game drive in Amboseli National Park. Accompanied by exceptional local guides, you will track the wildlife and discover the beauty of Amboseli for yourself. The park is renowned for its elephants, who may be seen in herds over 100 strong drinking from the surface springs. Older bull elephants in this region carry some of the largest tusks to be seen in Africa, making for some fantastic photo opportunities. Also roaming the grasslands are buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, giraffes, impala and warthog. Not far behind carnivores are lurking, you may see lion, leopard, caracal, cheetah, jackal and hyena. The National Park is home to some spectacular birdlife so look out for pelicans, bee-eaters, kingfishers and many types of eagle as you travel across the dusty terrain. The spectacular presence of Mount Kilimanjaro remains with you whilst on safari providing a beautiful backdrop for your photos of the wildlife.
After an exhilarating day out on safari guests at the Tortilis Camp can relax with a massage or enjoy a swim in the camps beautifully situated swimming pool immersed in the African surroundings. Tortilis Camp has a spacious dining room overlooking Mount Kilimanjaro where guests can expect fresh homemade pastas and breads served with salads and vegetables grown in the camps lush vegetable garden. Following dinner you are invited to join other guests for a sundowner and take in the impressive views as you enjoy your refreshment.
An excursion to the Cynthia Moss Elephant Research Centre will allow you to get up close to the impressive Amboseli Elephants. Guides will introduce you to the conservation efforts taking place to secure the welfare of these gentle giants as well as explaining their behaviour and personalities. Amboseli Elephants are renowned for their tolerance to close proximity with human beings which makes them easy to study and provides close wildlife encounters for guests visiting the centre. It is a fantastic opportunity to observe these magnificent animals up close and in their natural environment. While the older elephants are so secure with human presence they are almost oblivious to it, the younger ones are always inquisitive and keen to see their newest visitors.
