One difference from the fridge freezers of the 1950s is energy efficiency. With the cost of electricity today it is quite important to be conscious of the energy consumption of every major appliance in your home. Side-by-side fridge freezers may not be as energy efficient as top or bottom models, but convenience versus energy efficiency is a choice you will have to make.

American style fridge freezers are no different than other fridge freezers, in that they are now offered in an almost endless choice of colors. Colors range from the traditional whites of the 1950s to the pinks and the harvests gold that came later. Since that time other colors have introduced including black (which was considered to be prestigious) and stainless steel appliances which are very popular today.

The American style fridge freezers often offer a water and ice dispenser that is usually situated on the outside of the door.

It is important to shop around at different stores and retailers because each one is likely to carry different brands of appliances. Shopping around will allow you to compare brand names and the features that each brand offers. Listening to the salespeople and asking as many questions as possible is a good idea. The salespeople are there to sell you an appliance, but they also have the product knowledge and are aware of any issues or concerns that there may be with specific styles or brands.
