Bring cash

Pack an umbrella

The weather in Amsterdam is very changeable. The sun can be shining when you are in your hotel room but in an hour it can start raining, so pack an umbrella or a rain jacket. If you plan to rent a bike its better to pack a jacket, because when on bike an umbrella is uncomfortable to hold.

Eat some herring

Fresh herring is what should be tried when in Amsterdam. It is served chopped on a paper plate with sweet pickles and onions.

Rent a bike

There is no Amsterdam without a bike. People here seem to be obsessed with them. There are more bikes in this city than people. And for the great Amsterdam experience you should do the same. There are special bicycle lanes and the drivers are aware of cyclists so you dont have to be nervous about it.

Amsterdam is known all over the world for being the most liberal capital; it is famous for its coffeeshops which are scattered throughout the city. In the coffeeshop you cant smoke a cigarette, but tobacco joints are ok.

As a tourist you will of course take a camera with you, but there are some things you should know. You will undoubtedly want to visit one of the Amsterdams most known attractions the Red Light District. You should be aware of the fact the tourists who disrespected the workers and the customers of the District and were taking pictures were thrown in the canals. So you better not risk yourself or your camera.
