An Alarming Increase Of Mdd Patients In The Us

The increasing number of people with Major depression disorder (MDD) which has become

an alarming case in the United States is known through a research disclosed in a report from Reuters.The good news for these patients is that studies have also shown that coffee drinking may lower depression especially in women.

Social life, sleep, diet and general health gets affected once struck by a disabling condition of MDD. Estimated 3.4 percent of people with MDD commits suicides in the US.

Pzifer came up with Zoloft an antidepressant medication to help lower the statistics of MDD-related suicides.

Known as class of medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs is where Zoloft, an antidepressant drug called as Sertraline HCI, belongs.

It has been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration(FDA) for the treatment of adults experiencing MDD, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and Social Anxiety Disorder.

However, Zoloft might be a remedy for depression but it has several side effects such as severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bizarre behavior; black or bloody stools; chest pain; confusion; decreased bladder control; decreased concentration; decreased coordination; exaggerated reflexes; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever; hallucinations; memory loss and more others.

Zoloft intake among pregnant women during their first trimester can be a basis of the life threatening side effects such as miscarriage; premature birth; delayed development, clubbed foot; cleft lip or palate; persistent pulmonary hypertension; Gastroschisis, Nueral tube defect, Septal heart and skull defects.

Although more studies are needed to prove that smoking among expectant mothers would result to their children experiencing MDD and becoming dependent on antidepressants.

MDD suffers can account that it is a disabling and often times confusing illness and often times it is difficult to get better even with prescription drugs. Right now there are those who have begun to file a Zoloft Lawsuit against the drug companies who have manufactured drugs, like Zoloft, that have not been able to help in curing their disease.
