An Important Survival Skill For Internet Daters

Sometimes I feel as if the internet is more of a curse than a blessing

. This is because it sometimes helps people feed off other people's deep rooted need to be loved. This desire to find love has been known to allow people to let their guard down and put themselves in questionable situations. This is why I believe everyone should listen to their "inner voice" - that part some persons refer to as an "intuition" and/or their "gut feeling". I prefer to call it my sixth sense and, for the most part, I follow its guidance. I say for the most part, because there have been times when I've been silly enough to think that I know better and thus bypass the feelings in question.

The first example that comes to mind is when I worked as a bartender and one of the regulars asked me out after work. This particular individual came in every Sunday to watch the football games so we got to talking. I found this led to a false sense of security because I felt we were "friends" simply because we spoke every Sunday in between quarters and when business was slow. Even though the conversations were never deep, I had an illusion that we had established a friendship.

When I got off work early one Sunday, he asked me to join him at the bar. As I sat down, my manager walked over and informed me that was against company policy, so we left to another sports bar. After the game, he suggested that we go shoot pool. I agree to this since I love to shoot pool. As we make plans, we agree to carpool and he offers to drive. I hear this familiar voice in my head saying "Danger, Will Robinson, Danger!!!" However, being that it was Sunday and I was done with work, I chose to tune the voice out.

Thus within a couple of minutes, we are in his car heading towards a pool hall about a mile away. Imagine my surprise when he turns onto the entrance ramp onto the expressway. I ask where he's going and he informs me that we're heading to South Beach where there's a really nice place. I decide to sit back since there's not much I can do now. Turns out the place has closed and I state that I'm tired and ask to be taken back to my car suggesting we leave this for another night.

As we're getting close to where my car is, he begins to head in the opposite direction. I then really hear my voice saying "hello? Anyone home? Where are we going?" When he wouldn't stop and turn the car around and I noticed he had begun to slow down to turn down a very dark, secluded street, I simply thought to myself "okay, enough!" and threw off my seat belt, "crossed" myself, opened the door and proceeded to roll myself out of the car. All I heard from behind me was "Holy Crap - she's PSYCHO!!!" I walked to my car and apologized to my sixth sense for having ignored it.
