An International Air Ambulance Trip From Lebanon To Texas On The Gulfstream Iv: From Beirut To Houst

Earlier this week, we began telling you the story of a complex worldwide air ambulance trip from Beirut, Lebanon, to Houston, Texas

. Organizing the details of the transport itself had been fairly complicated, since we had a cancer patient traveling thousands of miles, along with over half a dozen family members. Needless to say, it was a logistical challenge.

By relying on our ingenuity and know-how, the MedFlight911 air ambulance team had arrived in Lebanon to pick up the patient, who'd be traveling with us to the United States to receive cancer treatment at a hospital in Houston. Our team (which included a two-person medical flight crew and a flight attendant, in addition to the pilots) knew that the patient would be traveling with an entourage. In addition to the patient, we'd be flying with five adults and two children.

Several of the accompanying passengers had some health issues of their own (including diabetes and a stomach ailment), which meant that our air ambulance medical crew would be extra busy. In addition, eight passengers traveling to another continent means a lot of baggage, literally. Fortunately, we were able to get everyone (and their bags) on board. Before long, we were on our way to Texas, with a stop in Keflavik, Iceland to pick up two new pilots. (Switching pilots was one way to make the flight continuous without a duty-rest layover. Picking up a new flight crew in Iceland meant we didn't need to spend hours on the ground while the pilots got their required duty rest.)

It was a long journey, but the jet was configured in such a way that allowed the patient and his family to be as comfortable as possible (including several televisions, DVD players, iPods, and iPads to keep everyone entertained). Still, a lengthy flight is exhausting for everyone involved, and our crew did everything we could to make sure that our passengers had everything they needed. As the patient and his family slept, the medical crew kept watch over the passengers, and especially the patient who of course was our top priority. Once we arrived in Houston, our passengers met several more relatives who were already in the United States with another family member who was also receiving cancer treatment. The patient is currently receiving treatment at the hospital in Houston, and we just heard the other day from the patient's daughter that he should be through with chemotherapy and radiation mid-June.

We were thrilled that we were able to make sure that our patient and his family had a hassle-free trip to Texas. This particular transport was a little more complicated than some of our more "typical" transports. Nonetheless, we were able to find the perfect aircraft and accommodate both the needs of the patient and his family. It's just another example of taking that extra step to ensure that we're able to meet all of our customer's needs, whatever they may be.
