An Introduction To The Nokia N8

Nokia have wetted the tastebuds of smartphone fans everywhere with the unveiling of their latest handset, the impressively high specification N8.

In a world where mobile handsets need to be a lot more than just a phone, the connectivity of the N8 certainly looks impressive. Whether it is to check e mails or browse the web whilst on the move, thanks to GPRS and EDGE support this is all possible. And even whilst at home the handset is extremely functional in this sense thanks to WIFI, meaning the phone will automatically connect to your own network for an even quicker response. This aspect is particularly useful considering many cafes, bars etc now offer customers free WIFI connections. The unit itself will automatically sync with MS Outlook and thanks to support of Push notifications, the handset will let you know when new mail is received rather than relying on the user to actually log in. Nokias excellent Ovi Store offers the phones users a wide range of downloads and applications, and the Ovi Maps feature comes pre installed on the phone, meaning the unit can be used as a kind of satellite navigation. The facility to download new maps is also available.

With regard to the appearance and design of the Nokia N8, the handset certainly looks impressive. Buttons are kept to a minimum, with just a single menu button located on the fascia, beneath the 3.5" screen. Utilising the latest OLED technology, the screen produces crisp images with great colour depth thanks to a massive 16 million range of colours. Displaying a resolution of 360 x 640, the display also benefits from being a capacitive touchscreen, which are much more responsive than their resistive competitors.

A superb camera facility can be found on the Nokia N8. Where video is often an afterthough on many models, usually boasting VGA resolution at 15-20 frames per second , the N8 boasts fantastic High Definition video recording. At a rate of 25 frames per second and in a resolution of 720P, this feature will obviously appeal to many people who own a High Definition television, especially as Nokia have cleverly added an HDMI socket to this handset, meaning instant and easy connection to such a device. The camera itself features a mammoth 12 mega pixel resolution, backed up by a Xenon flash, digital zoom and autofocus featuring facial recognition software. The phone offers an ample 16GB of internal memory, with the option to extend this further with the addition of a microSD card.

The Nokia N8 certainly impresses in every department and will undoubtedly be top of many wishlists this forthcoming summer.
