An Introduction To The Zero Point Field
Is Space empty? Even Einstein at one time believed that space was a void until his
very own ideas which he developed into the general theory of relativity showed a vast expanse which was teeming with activity.
Quantum physics as shown that there is no such thing in space as a vacuum or nothingness. Most of us tend to think of space as a void; empty of matter or energy. In actuality, all of space existing between the stars and the planets is a hive of activity on a subatomic level.
According to the Uncertainty Principle expounded by the great physicist Werner Heisenberg, no particle stays at rest but rather is constantly in motion, the basic substructure of the Universe is a sea of quantum fields. A quantum field is described as a constantly redistributed, dynamic pattern of exchange of energy. Particles can not be separated from the empty space around them. The atomic world is a never ending, back and forth passing of energy from one particle to another. The Universe is a tumultuous storm of particles constantly darting in and out of existence. All particles interact by exchanging energy between other quantum particles. This subatomic dance when added up across the Universe accounts for an infinitely huge amount of energy.
The lowest temperature theoretically possible (-273.15C or -459.67F) is called absolute zero. Because fluctuations of energy can still be detected at absolute zero, the infinite space of quantum fields is called the Zero Point Field. the Zero Point Field is a vast energy source: free, boundless and non-polluting.
The Zero Point field is the depository of all fields, of all states of energy and of all particles. Every exchange that occurs between every particle radiates energy. The energy created in the Zero Point field by the transaction of one particle to another is unimaginably small, but adding up all the particles in the Universe constantly exchanging energy and there exists an unimaginably enormous, inexhaustible source of energy. Looking up into the sky and there lies inconspicuously in the seeming nothingness surrounding us an all ubiquitous, invisible, supercharged medium.
Scientists have calculated that the total energy contained in the Zero Point Field exceeds the energy contained in all matter in the Universe by a factor of 10 to the exponent of 40 or rather 10 with 40 zeros following. The renowned physicist Richard Feynman calculated that the energy contained within one cubic meter of space is sufficient to boil the waters of all the oceans on earth.
Although our current technology is far from being able to tap into this endless reservoir of energy, there is no reason to believe that this capability will not exist in the future. Besides providing the Earth with an unlimited, clean and cheap energy supply, the Zero Point Field could serve as a power source for extended voyages of spacecraft since there would be no need to fill storage tanks with conventional types of fuel.
The Zero Point Field also has other implications beyond that of being a source of energy. Evidence is being discovered that can provide explanation for numerous phenomena that has evaded scientists for generations including gravity, electromagnetism as well as occurrences of things like clairvoyance or telepathy.
Everything, including human beings, can be traced back to a collection of electric charges that are continually in contact with this endless sea of energy. We do not just live in this field, we interact with this field. This field contains who we are, who we will become and who we have been. The field is inseparable from our existence. Everything and everyone is connected with one another through this field in which all information from all time is said to be stored.
Ervin Laszlo was one of the first scientists to recognize the the Zero Point Field could be the missing link for our understanding of the Universe. According to Laszlo, the Zero Point Field is an information carrier. He Wrote, "This quantum vacuum is the origin of the mind and matter. A blueprint of the Universe. Even our own memories are not stored in our brains, but are stockpiled like holographic information in the field. Our brains are mainly receivers and processors of this information. When they resonate with certain frequencies they gain access to specific information."
Physicists have determined that particles which were connected to one another at one time, such as within a molecule, remain connected at all times and all places and instantly influence each other faster than the speed of light and over great distances. This phenomenon indicates that the dimensions of time and space do not apply at the most basic level
The pervasive Zero Point field could soon turn out to be the bridge that spans the differences between science and spirituality. Although he could not prove it at the time, Einstein suspected it when he said that "the field is the only reality."
