. It is a chronic auto immune disease. It can attack various parts of the body like skin, muscles, tendons and also attacks kidneys, heart, lungs and brain. Normally lupus hits women during their child bearing years. It can affect both men and women. In this case bodys auto immune system goes wrong and body produces auto antibodies that attack persons own tissue.

This results in swelling that causes redness, pain and other symptoms. Generally four types of lupus exist- systemic lupus erythematosus, discoid, drug -induced and neonatal. The most common and serious form of lupus is systemic lupus erythematosus. The word systemic means it can affect various parts of the body.

People who obtain systemic lupus erythematosus 90% of cases occur in women. It is found in young women, but it can also be found men as well. Young children and adults whose autoimmune system is not as efficient can acquire this autoimmune disease. This disease is eight times more familiar in women than men. The causes of this disease are unknown. However, heredity, viruses, ultraviolet light, and drugs may play a key role of this disease.

Some medicines people used for their high blood pressure, heart disease and tuberculosis can cause this condition. Other causes for this disease are hormone, genetics and some environmental factors. Lupus can attack more women than men. Lupus disease can worsen during pregnancy and menstruation. Normally white men have a great chance of lupus. It sometimes runs in families. Someone says that some environmental factors are cause of this disease like ultraviolet light, infections and some drugs.


Lupus disease was first exposed in the middle Ages for skin disorder. It reveals pimple and scratches on the face that is formed like a butterfly. Lupus is a Latin for word comes from wolf. The physician of 12thcentury Rogerius invented the word lupus telling these scratches that look like a wolf. It was appearance on the face. In 1948 scientists discovered the Lupus Erythematosus cell (LE cell). In 1894 treatment for this autoimmune disease began. For this treatment Phillip Showalter Hench won the Nobel Prize in 1950.

Some common lupus symptoms are joint pain, skin rashes or exhaustion. When this disease is reached in serious position it can affect many internal organs and muscles including your kidney or heart. Some symptoms are connected to certain parts of the body which is affected by this disease. Almost 90% of this disease experienced serious fatigue. And 70% of people experience joint or muscle pain when obtain this disease.

Those people who obtain lupus have a harmful effect on the nervous system. Some symptoms include headache and memory loss. The disease can also endorse brain epilepsy or attack to occur. Other symptoms are weight and hair loss, fever, or mental problems associated with this disease. The internal organs like kidney and lymph nodes can be affected as well. The treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is decreasing inflammation and level of autoimmune activity.
