Often called as Notre Dame, the University of Notre Dame du Lac lies in the state of Indiana, United States. This Catholic research university was founded by Father Edward Sorin in the year 1842. The growth of the university can be traced by the formation of the following colleges: the College of Arts and Letters, the College of Science, The School of Architecture, the Mendoza College of Business and the College of Engineering. These form the pillars of different educational disciplines offered at the campus.

The University of Notre Dame's library system is divided into 2 forms one main library and the second part accommodates individual libraries of respective colleges here. Time and again, Notre Dame has been ranked amongst the top 20 national universities across United States. Apart from the required learning part, the university campus is considered a great place for students to learn the ethics of life.

It is a general understanding that the campus of Notre Dame is one of the best places to have a student bathed in educational learning and moral values. Like many other universities, football, baseball, basketball and ice hockey are more popular than other sports. The sports fraternity of the university often goes by the name - Fighting Irish. Even the marching band is known as the Band of the Fighting Irish.

There are many notable alumni, but some who have a healthy print media and television following include show hosts Regis Philbin and Phil Donahue along with television and radio personalities like Hannah Storm and Mike Golic.
