Andalusia's Eternal Appeal Shines Through The Economic Storm Clouds

One of Spain's most popular destinations, Andalusia is also the largest of Spain's regions

, covering almost 20% of the country. An incredibly diverse region, its rich and illustrious history serves only to add considerable character to this most popular of regions. Over the past twenty years, there has been considerable investment into the tourist infrastructure throughout Andalusia, and today the region is one of Europe's leading tourist destinations.

The landscape of Andalusia, which covers almost 90,000 square kilometres, ranges from the mountainous and volcanic regions, down to the regions stunning golden beaches, where over 900 kilometres of coastline attract millions of overseas visitors every year. From the famous ski slopes of the famous Sierra Nevada, it is less than an hour's drive to the beach. Few regions in Spain can offer the opportunity to ski in the morning, whilst spending the afternoon lazing by the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea.

At the heart of the Andalusian tourist industry is the regions typically accommodating Mediterranean climate, which offers residents warm, dry summers and short, moderate winters. Understandably, the combination of factors such as the climate, the numerous activities and the increasing tourism revenues have resulted in a considerable increase in demand for property in Andalusia over the course of the past twenty years. Today, it is estimated that Andalusia is home to over 380,000 foreign residents, making it the second most popular destination for holiday home purchasers in Spain.

What has been most noticeable is the more robust nature of the demand for property in Andalusia. In keeping with the rest of the Spanish real estate market, Andalusia has seen a fall in the demand for property in the region, although not to the same extent as some of the other popular tourist destinations. Today, many feel that we are approaching the formative stages of a recovery in the Spanish property market, and whilst it is undoubtedly too early to state definite trends, there are suggest that a corner may have been turned. Indeed, only recently did the Spanish Prime Minister state that there are now signs of the Spanish property market bottoming out.

As the prices of property in the region have slowly come over to more realistic levels, it is likely that the sustained demand will translate through to increased property sales. What is undoubted, is that the allure and overall appeal of Andalusia are consistent, and that people will choose to live in the region this year, next year, and in the future.
