Andaman Tourism offers numerous options for some splendid adventure activities

Travelling from one place to another for different purposes has been a part and parcel of the human civilisation since its beginning. Over the years, ecotourism has become more popular because people have begun to realise the importance of preserving the environment. With knowledge, people are more curious about exploring natural environment and doing good deeds at the same time.

A Pristine world of silver sands, clear blue seas, coral reefs, swaying palms, tropical forests, volcanic mountains and gently undulating landscape is what the Andaman islands are all about. One of the world's last outposts of virgin rainforests islands, the Andaman Islands are in Bay of Bengal. Remote, the islands are preserved the way they had evolved, still in habited by tribes and considered oldest living communities in the world.

The main islands in the Andaman groups are landfall islands, middle Andaman, south Andaman, Port Blair and little Andaman. As per the study 70% of the first time tourists make repeated visits.

Here is what I observed when I visited Andaman as my travel was hosted by Andaman Plantations

1. A place where there are hundreds of clean, white-sand, palm-fringed beaches, completely empty of souvenir stalls, plastic sun-loungers and hordes of people, but with glorious warm azure water and exquisite marine life waiting to be explored..

2. A place where no-one hassles foreign tourists with offers of rickshaws, hotels or tatty souvenirs whether you want them or not.

3. A place with accommodation to suit every budget, where Indian and foreign tourists meet and enjoy each other's company. And where there is fresh delicious seafood wherever you go.

4. A place where you can hop from one island to another using local boats and meeting local and tribal people.

5. An India in miniature where there are temples, gurudwaras, mosques, churches, and where people of different faiths marry and there is no religious tension at all.

6. A place where people speak Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, and Englishand welcome you with open arms whatever the language!

On the note of EntryPermits can be obtained at the airport but it is preferable to obtain these through overseas Indian embassies while applying for a visa. Permits are also issued at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Delhi, or at the Foreigners' Registration Office in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata or Chennai.

Indian citizens do not need a permit for entry into the Andaman's. However, all visitors are best advised to carry some form of identification (driver's license, PAN card or passport) with them. Permits for foreign passport holders are issued upon their arrival at the airport in Port Blair. As long as they have a valid Indian visa, and there is no stamp on the back of the visa that says, "Not valid in restricted areas," they should be fine.

Foreign visitors can stay overnight in South Andaman, certain places in Little Andaman, Middle Andaman, Neil Island, Havelock, and only in Diglipur on North Andaman.Day trips are permitted to the islands of Viper, Ross, Interview, Jolly Buoy, Red Skin, Cinque, Narcondum, Brother and Sister. It's all deserted islands with pristine white beaches, diving, and an exploration of the unique culture, rituals and geography of the Andaman Islands.

How to reach these magnificent Eco tourism Spot

By Air: Indian Airlines and few others have regular flights to Port Blair, from Kolkata & Chennai.

By Ship: There are regular trips to Port Blair, from Calcutta and Chennai. The trip usually takes three to four days.
