Android's Evo For Sprint
If the iPhone is not for you but you are looking for a smartphone that functions with the same excellence, you might want to try the Evo 4G Android phone with Sprint. According to reviews, the phone is fast and can run tens of thousands of applications offered on the Android market. Not only does it have a lot of storage but it is also considered one of the fastest Android phone on the market with its 1GHz Snapdragon processor.
What else does the Evo offer? It has a large screen, 4.3 inches of touch screen to be exact. The Evo has a large screen because it is a large phone, larger than an iPhone. It is actually 4.8 inches tall and 2.6 inches wide with about a half inch of thickness. Looking at the phone, the entire front is practically screen. There are four buttons on the bottom but you will primarily find yourself using the touch screen to do almost anything you need.
Speaking of the touch screen, it is a TFT LCD, same as what iPhone is using.
The Evo comes with a front-facing camera and of course a rear camera. The rear camera is 8-mega pixel and comes with dual flashes, which is sweet in low lit situations. The camera also includes an auto focus lens which takes pictures at a minimum resolution of 640 x 384 - and at full resolution, 3264 x 1952. After taking pictures, you can digitally zoom and crop them right on your phone.
The phone also comes with the obvious such items such as the 3.5mm headphone jack, a volume rocker which is located on the right-hand bezel, a microUSB port and a microHDMI port for connecting the phone to a HD television.
If you want to use your EVO as a television for watching videos, there is a kickstand on the back so that you can set it up in landscape mode and sit back and enjoy. The kickstand doubles as a camera lens cover preventing your camera from getting scratched.
The Evo is operated on Android 2.1, also known as clair. The phone also comes with a 1500mAh battery, which is comparable to the Droid Incredible and Touch Pro 2. Unfortunately the battery may only get you through a single day with a single charge so you might want to buy an extra to keep on the charger to exchange out with. Another thing about the battery or at least its compartment, behind it is the microSD storage card. Yes, it is tucked under the battery. Swapping out these cards isn't easy so you might want to make sure the card you have has enough storage on it for all of your needs.
The Evo can also serve as a WiFi hotspot, serving up to eight devices. The phone pulls the signal and puts it back into the air. Sprint does charge extra for this option (around $29 a month), but with it on, you can provide WEP, WPA and WPA encryption.
While this phone came out earlier this year, it is still a hot commodity and could make a great Christmas present.
