Anti Dumping duty is the penalty in the form of additional duty imposed upon suspiciously low-priced imports into a particular country to protect the local industry from unfair competition. The Central Government levy additional duty equal to margin of dumping on such articles if the goods have been sold at less than normal value. Dumping Margin is the difference between the Normal value and the export price of the goods under complaint. It is generally expressed as a percentage of the export price.

Dumping of goods is becoming a serious threat to the health of our domestic Industry, custom duty, and import duty in India. Companies need to take proactive steps and highlight such cases before they create dent in their balance sheets and P&L statements by hampering growth

Jindal steel which commands 80% market share of Cold-Rolled Flat Products in 2008 has demonstrated a classic example of one such case. It formed the basis on which a request was filed to Government to impose retrospective Imposition of duty.

Large companies with significant market share are nowadays concerned about dumping of goods especially by China as it hampers profitability and lowers their market share.
