Yet another category of antagonists hold even processions and demonstrations carrying placards crying their gospel which condemns the practice. This wave against the Cupid has assumed considerable magnitude in recent times.
As part of the anti-Valentines Day celebrations, some may listen to music that has an angry tone or watching movies devoid of any treatment of love. Some may hold discussions at gatherings organized to protest against the practice. It has been found that most of those who are the supporters of anti-Valentines Day celebrations have had some bitter experiences in love. Some might have been jilted in love, or may have had some unwholesome experiences with their partners or spouses. Some others might have been repeatedly wronged by the opposite sex. Yet again there are some due to faith, philosophy or preference might oppose the institution of love and relationship. For instance, the other day I met a gentleman in his early thirties who is opposed to the concept of love, relationship or marriage. People like him hold the view that marriage and relationship and even society are artificial institutions created by man because nature never intended so. A sizable majority of anti-Valentines Day agitators seems to be subscribing to such a contention.
Of late, anti-Valentines Day celebrations are gaining popularity everywhere. It is against the context of the growing popularity of Valentines Day celebrations across the global spectrum. Commercialization of the celebration is the primary cause of dissention for some leftist progressive thinkers and activists. A host of branded items targeting the event are vigorously promoted by some leading commercial concerns across the world and it has made the occasion one for profiteering. Some base their protest on this principle. Paradoxically enough, as the vehemence against commercialization of Valentines Day gathers momentum, the anti-Valentines Day celebration itself has metamorphosed in to another opportunity for commercialization for profit-mongers. Some who oppose this practice are couples who believe in real love and commitment and they hold that this commercialized, unrealistic and media-generated exercise is a hollow show, a sham and they love to shun it.About the Author:
