Apple Donate $2.5 Million To American Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Help Fund
Hurricane Sandy devastated thousands of people
, and thousands of homes. New York received much media coverage, there was not a person left on earth who did not know about the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy. Only a few weeks ago, many Americans saw their homes being destroyed and taken from them. Now, these same Americans are only starting their journey to recovery. It is now they are in need of all the hospitality and aid they can get. Apple has stepped in to be some aid.
News from 9to5Mac states Apple has taken it upon themselves to donate a whole 2.5 million dollars to the American Red Cross for the Hurricane Sandy relief effort. Of all donations made, Apples huge contribution will go toward rebuilding homes, setting up recovery centres, and offering food and shelter to those whom were so deeply affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Prior to Apples generous donation toward the American Red Cross, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, sent an email to all Apple employees. Within Cooks email, he spoke of efforts between Apple employees and customers, which raised millions of dollars toward cause. He then went on to state how more could still be done. Prior to Apples generous and considerable donation, they had already set up a donation gateway on the iTunes homepage, which was put up only a few days after Hurricane Sandy hit.
Media coverage of Hurricane Sandy was wide spread, with New York being effected so badly. As everybody worldwide is aware of New Yorks influence, anything happening there is usually taken and broadcast around before anything else. Learning of devastation has caused thousands of people worldwide to rethink their actions, and to consider where their money could really be used. Such devastation is not usually felt by everyone on earth, yet it seems exceptional for once.
Apples 2.5 billion dollar contribution to the American Red Cross Charity will no doubt be incredibly helpful and effective in helping them complete their work. So far, the American Red Cross state they have dispatched almost 6,000 workers all along the east coast in order to help with recovery, with Apples contribution they are able to send more out. They also state they have hosted 61,000 people in overnight shelters, and served 3.2 million meals and snacks to each person whom has been effected by Hurricane Sandy. As true realisation of devastation spreads, these numbers are only set to increase.
121,000 other items, like hygiene kits, have also been donated and distributed amongst the survivors of Hurricane Sandy. The American Red Cross rely on donations from those around them, and so Apples generously large donation of 2.5 billion dollars (which is around 1.5 billion UK pounds) is helping them stretch their aid and help father along the east coast, around Manhattan and through New York. As devastation is truly realised, more and more help and donations will be needed for the American Red Cross to continue its brave work.
