Aprons for cooking are known throughout time to be one of the most useful kitchen accessories that women use

. Without it, cooking would be a real mess and you will eventually find your kitchen bathed in all the ingredients you were using. Aprons need to serve their purpose as a protection for clothing when we are cooking and until now we still use the same thing as we did in the past.

Aprons are also items of clothing, and just like all our clothes, it is affected by what fashion dictates. And as the designs of clothes change every season, the designs of the aprons also change. Today we have a lot of designs available. Let us take a look at some of the most common designs used by women of today in their kitchens.

The first one is the bib apron. This was called as such because it really does resemble a bib. It does a really good job in protecting one's clothes especially the upper garments. But it also extends down to a part of the lower garments, thereby offering some protection. It is secured using a zigzag manner at the back.

The next type of apron design is the cobbler apron. This is great if you need maximum protection from stains. It covers the entire front and back of the body, so you do not have to worry about stains hitting your garments. It is secured using knots at either side of the trunk, or, for maximum hold, you can tie both ends. This is commonly used by butchers and other people whose work include a lot of mess to be made.

Another type of apron design is called the waist apron. As its name suggests, it only covers the waist and the lower extremities. It is to be tied at the waist using two ends that come together at the back. This does not give a lot of protection from stains especially since your upper garments are left exposed. This is not the most common type of apron out there, and only a few people prefer this design.

And the last type of apron design I can share with you is the pinafore apron. This vintage design is just like what you imagine French maids of the past to be wearing. These resemble sleeveless dresses that you can wear over your garments and tie it at the back using buttons or corsets or whatever design the apron has. A lot of women like this design and even though it is considered vintage, more and more women are looking for unique aprons such as this.

I am sure there are a lot more apron designs in the market today. Whatever design you choose from, it is important that the apron you choose serves its purpose--to protect your garments from stains. It would be useless to buy something so stylish but cannot even give you the protection you need.
