Architectural design is in the details. Decoration can be a frivolous term for flowers, candles, lighting and more. But the real basis of any celebration, the one thing that will set the tone for the day is the architecture of the venue.

A room can consist of four white walls, adequate lighting and adequate carpets. While the layers of detailing can bring in splashes of color in table linens or floral design, the room is still just a room.

If on the other hand, you walk into a venue where hand-carved stone frames each window and door and the exterior is adorned with golden toned stone quarried in Colorado, then an entirely different mood is created. What if warm colors reminiscent of the classic Tuscan hues of warm golden honey have been expertly applied and the red-stacked roof completes the perfect pairing of gold with reds so commonly seen in the sun drenched Tuscan countryside? Banquet halls may be filled with architectural details from a past era, which can transport guests to another time. Popular architectural themes include Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic, Modern or Post Modern.

Depending on your tastes and the theme you have planned for your wedding, you may say your vows in an open courtyard with gas lamps burning around you, or walk with your husband under vaulted arches as the photographer captures the moment. You may incorporate modern angles and designs within your choice of dress.

The style will dictate what additional layers of details you might want to add. Soft romantic flowers may serve to contrast against stark silver and white architecture, or may enhance the style of a Romantic era wedding.

Candles can be incorporated into any decor. The candleholders may be of clear glass, or candle pillars of various sizes may be used. Frosted glass holders can soften the mood, or candles may be used to accentuate floral arrangements.

The architecture is the backdrop for every event. Wood, marble and stone accents all set the stage for the big moment that is about to happen. Architectural details may include hand carved wood reliefs or hand painted images floating on ceilings or adorning walls. What it all boils down to is the design is in the details.
