Are At Home Dry Cleaner Systems Enough?

In these tough economic times, individuals and families are cutting back on any costs they can

. This can mean cutting back on getting your clothes dry cleaned. However, a trip to the MD dry cleaners does not need to be a costly, unnecessary endeavor.

With the invention of at home dry cleaner systems, many people are now avoiding dry cleaners altogether. However, these at home dry cleaner systems just do not provide the same clean that traditional dry cleaners do. Although these systems will make your clothing smell good, they do very little for stains, even after using the small bottle of soap that comes with the system. When your favorite suit has a stain, a professional dry cleaning associate can put their personal attention into removing the stain, ensuring a more thorough clean.

The home dry cleaner systems also require that you put your clothing in a bag and then toss it in the dryer on a low or medium setting. Do you really want to put that $100 satin top in the dryer? Is it worth it to save a couple of dollars to take care of the dry cleaning yourself instead of leaving it to the professionals?

At home systems also offer only a very small bag for you to fit your clothes into. This is often not nearly big enough to handle your clothes. This is especially true for curtains, drapery, leather, comforter, and bedspread cleaning. There are also different requirements for these more difficult to clean items and tossing it into a small bag with a dryer sheet is usually not enough.

Dry cleaning is not necessary for all clothing. It really only needs to be done for clothing that specifically states "Dry Clean Only" on the tag. Dry cleaning does less damage to your clothes in the long-run and will help to keep them soft and vibrant. However, the at home systems are not as gentle on your clothing and cannot boast these same benefits.

Dry cleaning does not require the use of water and is therefore quite environmentally friendly. Many dry cleaners will also provide professional tailoring and alterations and may even offer shoe repair. This can prevent you from having to make several trips or worry about figuring out how to do it yourself.

At home dry cleaning systems may be more convenient, but they do not provide the same benefits as traditional dry cleaning. For the few items that need to be dry cleaned, trust a professional dry cleaner to do the job.
