Are Cosmetic Surgeons To Blame For Liposuction Complications?

Cosmetic surgeons often take the blame for undesirable results in the post-surgery period

. But there are a lot of reasons that a cosmetic surgery might not work out right. For example, if a person has loose skin that has lost its natural elasticity, liposuction results are likely to be disappointing. Even though fat has been removed, the skin may look bumpy or may hang from the affected area.

People go into cosmetic surgery expecting to come out looking better. When this doesn't happen or if they actually come out with obvious unattractive flaws, most people want to blame the surgeon.

Usually, the blame does lie with the surgeon in one way or another, although it may not be in the way that the patient suspects.

As a case in point, liposuction is a popular cosmetic surgery today. Although it is generally known to have a high success rate, sometimes things go wrong.

Liposuction involves the removal of fat from small isolated areas of the body.

Patients expect that the affected area will be much more attractive than it was in the past, and some feel scandalized when this is not the case.

Sometimes surgeons make mistakes during surgery. These mistakes include removing fat too quickly or unevenly or accidentally burning the patient.

When fat is removed unevenly, the area will look dimpled and bumpy.

Perhaps a more common mistake for a surgeon to make, though, is to attempt liposuction on people who are not very good candidates in the first place.

This is a serious problem, since the surgery is only successful with certain people and in certain conditions. Candidates for the surgery must be carefully questioned in consultation to determine if they are eligible.

It is the surgeon's responsible to reject those who do not qualify.

Age and the condition of health are two major factors that should be taken into account. People must be within a healthy weight range and must have no major health problems.

Age is a particular concern when it comes to skin elasticity. Some of the more unattractive results that people see come about because of the pre-existing condition of their skin.

For best results, the recipient must have firm and elastic skin that is healthy enough to conform to a changing body contour.

When skin is not able to respond properly to fat removal, it can be left uneven and in some cases can hang loose from the body.

To avoid this problem and most other complications of liposuction, candidates for the surgery must be carefully screened. A surgeon who fails to do so is not ethical and is responsible for the resulting complications.
