Are Ehr And Emr Healthcare Software Different Or Same?
Till about a couple of years back there used to exist quite a bit of confusion in
understanding if offshore healthcare software such as EHR and EMR meant the same thing or were different from each other. When offshore healthcare software was in its nascent stage, I remember coming across medical practitioners that were not exactly aware of the differences between EHR and EMR. Both of them are an integral part of offshore healthcare software systems, however, they are definitely not the same technology. Today, there seems to be a change in perception as people have become more aware of these two terms, however, it is always a good idea to explain what these two terms exactly mean. EHR the abbreviated form of Electronic Health Records is a kind of offshore healthcare software that allows not doctors and medical practitioners to not only store patients records but it also enables sharing of the records between multiple medical providers and healthcare establishments.
So in a broader sense this implies that if a patient goes to a particular medical practice and is then advise to seek medical consultation from another specialist then automatically his or her records are shared with that medical specialist. Not only that, the record stored in EHR is also shared with the laboratories or medical facility where the patient might undergo certain tests. This type of offshore healthcare software is a more synchronized and advanced format of storing and sharing medical records.
The same is not the case with EMR or Electronic Medical Records, which was one of the initial digitized versions of offshore healthcare software and this was being used at the nascent stage. When offshore healthcare software came into being, one of the first software to be used was Electronic Medical Records. As it goes with every technological innovation, any new software definitely eases the process but it is only later that it becomes technologically advanced through different versions and adaptations. The same is with Electronic Medical Software, which was initially being used to only store and track patients records and it did not possess the capability of sharing it with other medical professionals. This means that the records were restricted to a particular medical practitioners clinic. It could not be shared with other clinics, laboratories or medical practitioners.
Therefore this type of system did help in storing medical records but it could not be shared with others. For instance, if the patient was advised to consult a specialist or take some tests then the patient would need to carry with him or her the hard copy of her records because the other medical practitioner or laboratory would not be able to access them through EMR type of offshore healthcare software. Hence, it is not surprising that slowly yet steadily there has been a drastic shift from EMR to EHR as more medical professionals are becoming aware of these different types of offshore healthcare software. In my recent experience of providing offshore healthcare software solutions I have realized that now I dont need to make the doctors aware anymore of the difference between these two types of offshore healthcare software.
