Despite all the fear about flying, flights are in fact safer then they ever were
. So are people still afraid of flying?
Flights have gotten safer over the years. With some many news safety measures in place to help pilots and ensure that everything goes smoothly. Within the U.S. particularly, commercial airliners very rarely get into trouble, based on the hundreds of thousands of commercial flights made every year and the millions every decade, there are only one or two that leading to any fatalities at all. Quite simply, it is very unlikely that you'll even be in a plane crash. It's almost with the same odds of getting hit by lightening that your flights from Dallas to Puerto Vallarta will come into any trouble.
Terrorism may make you more afraid to fly, but these instances are even rarer than accidental plane crash. Just because you hear a lot about terrorism on the news doesn't mean you should be any more worried about flying. Flights are incredibly safe, and the commonly cited statistic here is that taking flights from Las Vegas to Honolulu is nowhere near as dangerous as crossing the road. Many more people die from being hit by a car than die from being in a plane crash.
But plane crashes do happen. Crashes of single engine plane in which two people are killed are frequently on the news. But the fact that you hear about them so often should be evidence that it's a rare event. So fear not about flights from Manchester to Manila falling out of the sky. That simply does not happen. Pilots have never been so well trained, and electronic systems have never provided so many safeguards against emergencies as they do now.
