Not all companies only do business between the hours of 8 and 5; in a global marketplace
and medical field the reality is that the business day is actually 24 hours long. While it is beneficial for both the company that needs the delivery and the courier service hired to do the delivery to try and deliver their packages within normal local business hours, it is not always possible especially in the medical field. This is why most good medical couriers are able to be reached 24 hours a day and also offer deliveries on holidays and after normal business hours. With a company in the medical field, there are times when they need to have a courier available to pick up packages immediately, this includes on holidays.
Smaller medical courier companies survive because of the relationship that they form with their medical clients and they make sure that their clients know if they are able to offer services outside of normal business hours. If this service is offered the courier company is going to promote this information on any advertising or promotional material that they create as they know that offering delivery on holidays and after hours is of high value to their medical clients.
If you find that you need your courier to deliver a medical package for you on a holiday, do not be surprised if they charge extra. This is an extra charge that the courier service incurs for having to staff both a delivery person for your delivery and possibly even an extra person in their dispatch center to ensure the safety of their driver and delivery of your package. Having to call people in for a holiday or after-hours delivery is more likely to happen with a smaller courier service and the fee is likely to be higher as compared to a larger service that already has people staffed at that time. Either way, your courier company will advise you of the fees and/or surcharges for this type of delivery prior to you completing your order.
Regardless of the surcharges or extra fees that you may be charged by the courier service, it is usually worth having to pay more. In the medical field, this can mean that a patient or other medical provider can depend on you in a time of emergency and that they will get results from you even if it is a holiday.
