Are Home Tooth Whitening Kits As Good?

For years the battle has raged on between dental professionals and manufacturers of home tooth whitening kits

. The debate revolves around basically two arguments, being 1. Are they safe and 2. Are they effective. Some claim that only expensive trips to the dentist will give consumers the results they are looking for. Others claim that people can enjoy the same results for a fraction of the cost of a trip to the dentist. While some say that home tooth whitening kits are just as safe as going to the dentist, others stress that having a professional take care of the job is the safest way to go. Who is right? Which way is the better, cheaper and safer way to brighten a smile?

Dental professionals use their nitrous oxide (laughing gas), Novocaine and their tools to brighten the smiles of their patients. On the other side of the argument are the companies and manufacturers that make the home tooth whitening kits. Each side of the argument seems to claim that the other side is wrong and that the other side is inferior, less safe and less effective.

Dentists have made a lot of money in the past years with performing the whitening in their offices, so that is part of why they are against the home whitening kits right from the start. There are many rumors that fly around about the home kits, one of them being that they can cause cancer. This particular rumor was proved to be false quickly by a study, but at any rate, dental professionals encourage the fact that for better results and safer procedures, whitening should be done by a dental professional. This type of procedure has really brought general dentists into the cosmetic dentistry industry market, and they make sure that people think about the way that their smiles affect their health and their physical appearances not to mention their self esteem.

What consumers dislike the most about going to see their dentist for tooth whitening is the cost. The prices are high for transforming teeth during the procedures, so it is no wonder that despite their efforts, several companies have developed many different products that they claim will brighten smiles in the same ways of those procedures that are available in the dentists office.

People who have sensitivity issues with their teeth may want to have a dentist oversee their whitening efforts, as should those who have sensitive gums. Pregnant women and women who are nursing should not use home teeth whitening kits to avoid accidental ingestion.
