Are Life Coaches Indispensable?
Candidly speaking, no one really needs a life coach
. Everyone can do without them. You don't need a coach.
You don't need a coach in the suggested sense that it is not the coach who reaches the goals set in a coaching relationship, but rather YOU do it. So you really don't need a coach. Yet if you've ever tried to do something that is hard by yourself and then did it later on with another person, you most likely understand that you do better when someone is motivating you.
A Coach Can Make the Difference between Triumph and Failure
To quote the Teton Sioux, Lone Man, (Isna-la-wica), "I have seen that in any great undertaking it is not enough for a man to depend simply upon himself." At the time, Lone Man was most likely not referring to a coach. Yet the role of the coach-as-change-example in all of its forms, may not be indispensable. It is this type of role that is so often the decisive difference between a person being triumphant, failing and not even or not trying in the first place. It would be dead-on to assume that for most people at some time in lives, the role played by someone like a coach (if not an actual coach) was and is essential in order to reach many goals. If you think that the basic promises of coaching often including reaching just about any goals you had in mind in short amount of time, it is because you think that a coach can do this for you. Actually, reaching previously unimaginable goals is possible exactly because it is the individual's will that is ceaselessly capable and because the power of his or her spirit, sometimes left in dormancy, is quite powerful when aroused.
The purpose of a coach that is hired to be a change coach is not new idea- only the use of the word coach is new. The use of the associate, mentor and friend, advisor and person in charge (and so much more) has existed since humans evolved and became capable of technological advancements. We need to be around other humans, though. The roles played by innovative life coaches are not out and out necessary to your life's success. However coaching can be useful in a serviceable way, as it may be the difference between triumph and failure.
Coach's Principles
East and West's Best. Coaching and more specifically, work to set and attain goals is taken from some of the most brilliant brain science, quantum physics and neuro-psychology. It also comes from the examples of wise traditions like Buddhism, Taoism and others that were more advanced years ago than we are today.
Rising Up from Hard Places is Tough without a Partner. A coach's life work is to balance the power within you so that your urges to change inside are kept alive long enough for change to actually take place. You've experienced similar urges before, right? Follow through this time..
"What a piece of work is man!" the notable Shakespeare exclaimed. Coaches honestly believe you already have many of the abilities and knowledge that you need in order to change.
Comprehensive Coaching
We coach in many ways and from many depths within every one of us. One of the most common is when you start work on the inside and continue to work outward for an all around betterment. No single external goal should begin without realizing that clients require assistance with hiding their identity and traits of the false self in order to discover the true self, the real self. This lets them grow into their careers, businesses, relationships and lives that they were meant to have.
Joseph Campbell ~ "The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are."
Try to imagine that the possibility that all breakthrough coaching is about revealing to you that much of the wisdom and happiness you seek are already inside of you, beyond all you hunger for. Coaching uses proven techniques, experience and even intuition to bring out the true you -- as individual, manager, leader, career-searcher or member of any type of relationship. Any competent life coach should work from the same reasoning, stated or not and simply do what coaching does best - advise and point you in the right direction until you've got a hold of your goal once and for all.
Coaches Clarify How Immeasurable the Power in all Human Beings Is
When considering personal change coaching, we often discuss helping an individual to uncover his or her true nature by cutting through the hustle and bustle of daily life, the distractions and other unacknowledged baggage that hold us back and confine us. Just like the notable Kafka's role in literature, coaching can be an "axe for the frozen sea within us."
This type of proposal is nothing all that original. Many of our ancestors recognized that you are in the end the greatest source of expertise on not just your self, but also your gifts, talents, aspirations, aptitudes and shortcomings. Some of the most marvelous humans that ever walked the earth including saints and Shakespeare added, "What a piece of work man is! Hone noble in reason! How infinite in understanding! In form and moving how express and deserving of admiration. In performance, how like an angel! In understanding, how like a god! The beauty of the world, the ideal of animals!"
W. H. Murray from The Scottish Himalaya Expedition in 1951wrote that "The moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. A whole stream of events issue from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamt would have come his way."
Goethe's lines of verse respectfully declare that "Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!"
Many great minds including Native Americans followed the same beliefs.
The author William James wrote, "There is but one cause of human failure and that is man's lack of faith in his true Self."
Mr. Whitman wrote that "I am larger, better than I thought. I did not know I held so much goodness."
The great mind, Albert Einstein said that "The only real valuable thing is intuition. The natural mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We exist in a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift."
American icon, Dr. Seuss made the statement "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose."
Before Joseph Campbell passed on, he showed people that there is a great deal that we traded and lost with the eruption of the Enlightenment and Industrial Revolution. Machines and the reason behind them were excusable in order to take over for the uneconomical work that had always been done by communal traditions and ancient wisdom, by intuition and meditation and the incomprehensible power of listening to the self.
Ralph Waldo Emerson, an independent thinker of the 19th-century American Transcendentalists observed in an unintentional pun that, "The civilized man has built a coach, but has lost the use of his feet."
Coaching is a one on one dedication between two people and Coaches are professionals chiefly in those natural opposites, which are intuition and process.
If you believe coaching is just learning about in the kinds of "skills" that you hear about in business school (organization, managing meetings and time management) or in self-improvement seminars (nonjudgmental listening, withholding judgment), then there is a great deal more you should understand about coaching. If business skills by themselves were enough for people to have happy and successful lives, there would not be so many people such emptiness in their lives. It is why so many people are in search of meaning, asking coaches for assistance, consultants, therapists, and others for help having a purpose and a direction.
What is more, because the necessary skill of coaching based in the cognitive process, it matters very little whether a coach is a subject matter expert in, say, sales, in order to act as a sales coach or even in leadership in order to be effective as a leadership coach. Life or business coaching is not at all like athletic coaching in this way. This is because the main purpose of the life or business coach, whether in a sales or leadership coaching capacity, is consistently the same. It remains constant while digging deep into the client's own knowledge and resources, bringing out the client's goals, mapping out alternative ways of achieving them, setting courses of action, and rigorously following up. If the coach had familiarity in sales and leadership, that expertise could possibly help but not nearly as much as some might imagine. It is best to locate a coach whose vision, commitment, methods and even personal charisma are up to the task.
You, not any coach, consultant, therapist or counselor, are the expert on who you are, your true self and your false self, your goals, dreams, and abilities. A coach is available to assist you. He or she is a trustworthy confidant and an expert primarily in the way they help to find and bring out what already lives in everyone and who they can be. A coach can also help anyone to discover what they want to be and do in life - and to help build a foundation of correction and commitment to do and become the goal.
