Are Mobile Applications Just Hype?

Mobile phones have become more than just means of communication

. Lately, you not only see people glued to their mobiles to engage in conversations, you see them sending one SMS after another, listening to music, taking pictures, and watching movies.

There have been discussions on mobile application. Some claim that these are marketing strategies directed by mobile manufacturers in order to earn more - and they do because mobile phone users do turn to these applications to enjoy their phone. Mobile phones are now associated with entertainment because of its additional features. In fact, you can go online, check your email, and social networking sites just by logging in using your mobile.

Recently conducted studies show that substitutes have emerged for mobile applications that are quite beneficial for the consumer. An example is the browser-based service. There is a significant increase in the demands of mobile phones because of this. More models from different mobile phone manufacturers and the features and specs keep improving, in order to meet the demands of the market.

But are mobile applications simply hype or are they necessary for the mobile user? Not all players in the mobile industry have succeeded in receiving their fair share of the market because of the differences in consolidation. However they are still able to provide the users with what they need.

If you look at it closely, it is the people who wish to have these features in the first place. They are given the liberty to decide on which mobile unit to get and some of them choose to get mobile gadgets that can access the web, take pictures, watch movies, and listen to music to. If one can afford such a unit, then why not go for it? And with a unit like that, it is only practical that the owner maximizes the features by downloading graphics, wallpaper, and music into the gadget.

The mobile industry continues to grow rapidly in the past months alone. It does not show any signs of slowing down. Even when there was recession, it seemed as if people still turned to their mobile phones to access the web, listen to music, and make appointments. Clearly mobile phones are no longer limited to means of communication.

There is a demand for mobile applications in the first place. Thus explains why mobile manufacturers keep coming up with ways to satisfy the market. The law of supply and demand states that as long as people are asking for these applications, then the mobile phone manufacturers will continue with their marketing rackets to make people jump on board with them by purchasing the mobile units they have produced. If such a trend is indeed just a hype, then why do we still see people using their mobile in more ways than how it was meant to be used?
