Are Paper Books Needed Any More?

You may be asking what an eReader is? eReader is short for electronic book reader or ebook reader

. The majority of people would say that they would rather read something on paper than on a PC screen. The reasoning behind this is due to the familiarity of paper as this is how you have always read something in the past such as magazines or your daily rag. The other cited opinion is that digital displays can cause strain on your eyes not associated with paper. This is caused because of the backlighting on your monitor. EReaders are now starting to bridge this gap with lightweight (about 10-20 Ounces) and usually backlight free screens which are as close to paper look and feel as possible. There has even been a flexible paper material developed which can be programmed with text, quite amazing technology.

No longer science fiction, we can now carry our own library with us wherever we go. These readers allow you to save clippings and organize your notes so they are more than just an electronic reading device. These readers are very convenient and they are actually better for the environment and so easy to take with you where you are travelling.

The only downside would be if you accidently spill coffee on it!

When choosing what type of electronic reader to buy you will want to consider the following carefully:

Features - Does it have LED lighting, touch screen, wireless capabilities and how about the size of the screen.

The Content - How many books can you download and how many can you store.

Value for money - If you buy a pricier ereader are you really getting better value and features for your hard earned cash?

Support - Electronic devices are always subject to potential problems, so does the ereader come with technical support and a decent warranty?

Decent ereader models will have a long battery life and a clear screen that you are able to read even on those sunny days. You can extend the battery life by simply switching the device off when not using it. Be careful though because the switches can easily be switched on mistakenly when inside your bag or pocket.

Buying a protective cover for your electronic reader may be worth it, as well as preventing the on switch to activate, the cover will help to keep the screen scratch free. It is always a recommended approach to ask friends or colleagues which electronic book readers they have used in the past, because some can be fiddly to use, or they may be difficult to use funtionally with badly designed menu systems.

There are thousands if not millions of books which can now be downloaded and read on your ereader, but there are some books which their authors will not provide approval for distribution in this form, saying that their readers prefer to read a regular book. Whether this will ultimately change and the authors change their ways is hard to tell for the near future at least.

The portability and storage is a huge plus on the side of the electronic book reader versus the countless bookshelves you require to store the books at home. As technology develops there will always be more advances made in the development of electronic book readers and we are sure to see more features and options being made available even within the immediate future.
