Are PopUps Really Serving You?
You've made the decision that you might want to learn about something, so you do a Yahoo and google search. You choose one of several results that Google has called up for you and click it. Then you get an unfortunate surprise if the page loads. Instead of being given helpful content that will help you learn more about your subject, you are presented with a pop up. The pop up banner is an infuriating advertising campaign and no matter how many times you try to close it, it won't go away--unless you offer it your e-mail address. Finally you just close your browser altogether because you are so annoyed. The web page owner has won!
There is a good reason that a lot of people hate pop ups. They are generally bothersome. They intrude in your web use. The ones that play noise might find yourself getting you in trouble with your boss (or someone else in the room). They guarantee ridiculous things. They require that you type in sensitive information into them if you want them to close. Sometimes they'll install cookies or other malware on your hard disk. There are very few people who really enjoy being confronted by these annoying things and yet, so many Internet Marketers use them. Why?
The sorry and easy truth is that Internet Marketers use pop-up ads because they work. They order interest. They make it possible for them to create e-mail marketing and advertising lists. It continues to be proven again and again that a pop up ad will yield more opt ins than an opt in box placed in a sidebar or in the body of a web page. They have sometimes been known to help produce sales. Unfortunately, these ridiculous web pests really get the job done and, until another person thinks of something better, most IMers are going to keep using them.
Of course it does not mean that those very same IMers should keep using them. What is the real worth of an e-mail address that you have only obtained through force? Usually what goes on is the person just opts back out of your list as soon as they receive the first e-mail from you or maybe your company. How beneficial can visitors be when most of it clicks away because it is offended by your ad? Sure you wish to make money, but is this truly the best way? There has to be a better option for someone who wants to make and build an e-mail list to help them sell things.
The real truth is simply this: if you have a good item, you aren't going to need a pop up if you can present that product well. Concentrate on setting up a very high quality solution so that you don't have to rely on irritating pop up ads to do the job for you. Compose your sales and splash pages in a persuasive tone. Grab the reader's interest after which you can don't give it back using just the power behind your copy and site content. Here's the truth: Internet Marketers only find success and money on the web if the product that has been created is actually valuable. No pop-up ad could be substituted to mask the lack of value in a product.
