Multiple online sources offer free Steam games and provide different methods on how this can be achieved. You might ask yourself; Are these for real? Are they legal?

I will share with you what I've learned so you can avoid getting scammed and avoid compromising legallity issues.

I happen to be a college student who loves playing games on my PC. Unfortunately, I do not have the funds to purchase the games that I like and instead trim down my "Must Play" list and wait for sales on Steam. And really, sales on good titles do not come that often. Worse, you may miss out on good offers if you didn't check their store often.

This was when it dawned to me that there must be some way to get free Steam games, legally!

What I did was search for methods on how to obtain free steam games in YouTube and Google, and easily found lots of scams and illegal methods. Here are what you should avoid:

1) Sites asking for your Steam password. Do not give these sites a moment of your time unless you want to be a victim of Steam account theft!

2) Procedure or videos linking to other sources. You'll find quite a bit of these are malware. I had to restore my PC to previous states to get rid of these fully.

3) Modified Steam client downloads. These steam clients connect to false Steam servers where it downloads the games. This method is illegal. Come on! The game developers deserve more than that!

Now that we know which to avoid let's get on to the legitimate methods. Various web sites offer free Steam games via an incentive driven system where all you have to do is answer a few surveys.

By just alloting 5-10 minutes a day for 3 days you can win a $10 Steam coupon. And when you claim a game, it will be sent to your Steam account as a gift. Keep in mind, never give out your Steam password!

So far, I've received 5 games with a totaling worth of around $90. And since these are legitimate Steam purchases, the developers get their cut!
