Are Women Able To Be Rabbis?
Orthodox Jews still follow the same ancient pathway of their forefathers, that women lack authority over, or equal to men, the same as in the Arab society.
The small number of renegade' females who have been ordained as women rabbis, have been granted the title maharat, or "female leader in Jewish religious law, spiritual matters and Torah". This is very much a secondary status', which throws up imagery of the bridesmaid who will never attain to becoming the bride.
The first woman to be ordained as an orthodox rabbi, Sara Hurwitz, has the identical credentials as a male rabbi. She accomplished the same course of study required of male rabbis and works in the same capacity, with similar pastoral obligations.
Rabbi Avi Weiss, from Riverdale's Hebrew Institute, make an effort to give the women the title Rabba', being the female version of Rabbai, but was pressured to back away.
On the upper east side of Manhattan, in an independent prayer group, women hold and read from the Torah; women recite Hallel, one of the most beautiful songs of praise in the liturgy; dress in ritual garments and recite the blessing over the wine.
In many cases, in an Orthodox Jewish synagogue, you are hard-pressed even to figure out where the females are located, since they are most likely hidden upstairs in a gallery, or behind a curtain or wall, well away from the action. It is like entering a gender time warp. Females do not count in a prayer quorum, nor are they allowed anywhere near the Torah.
Both descendents of the two sons of Abraham, Issac Jews and Ishmael Arabs, will not permit females to rise to any position of authority.
