Are You A Spaghett-A-Weenie?

We all have reached points in our lives where we feel strained and thestress has made it almost unbearable. These points could have happened at any time, could have happened anywhere and could have been triggered by anything. During these times, our bodies go through metaphysical changes where distress tends to become our overriding emotion. It is during these times of distress that we find our bodies responding in ways that are the complete antithesis of how we may have acted during more "normal" times in our lives.

If you were to ask people to make a list of the most stressful moments, divorce certainly would make that list. During times of divorce, we go through changes in our emotional, physical, and mental state that make it difficult to comprehend and describe to others. In talking with many men and women about divorce, I have found that inmany instances during their divorces, people tended to gravitate towards the opposite ends of the roles they played during their marriage. For example, a strong, dominant man feels guilty about the divorce and becomes more passive and eager to please. A woman who felt trapped during the marriage suddenly feels liberated and possibly aggressive.

But by swinging the emotional pendulum to the complete other side, a certain loss of identity has occurred. And in the spirit of changing the meaning of wordsor creating new ones, I have created a new word that could easily describe someone who makes drastic emotional changes during a divorce and loses a smallpiece of identity. Being a closet-chef at heart, I created a word that I believe describes what happens to a lot of people who go through a difficult divorce. What is that new-and-exciting word? "Spaghett-A-Weenie." What is a spaghett-a-weenie you ask? In my next post, I'll go into great detail of the epiphany that occurred when I was making my boys a gourmet meal of spaghetti and meatballs and how Irelateto someone going through a divorce.
