It's not all gravy though. While the industry as a whole is doing a healthy business even as a recession has devastated many other businesses online and off, all you have to do is check out some dating forums or blog posts where people talk very candidly about their lack of online dating success.

Let's face it even though some online dating sites can put thousands of potential suitors at your fingerprints there is still no guarantees when it comes to finding the right person for you. That's because relationships are tricky. One person can go online and within a few days connect with the right person. For many other people the sifting thru prospects is an endless journey with a very low success rate.

The same goes for the offline world and like the offline world there are things you can do to increase your chances as well as cut down on your stress rate when trying to find that special someone.

1. Be Patient

Unlike anything that has gone before you are going to have to do a lot of trial and error to find the right person. Even if you narrow your requirements to weed out the as many people as possible the end result is there are still going to be a lot of prospects. So if you get into online dating in the hopes of finding Mr or Ms Right then be prepared to get in it for the long haul.

No the chances of you meeting your soul mate right off the bat are slim but you can meet a whole host of fun and interesting people that can make your search for that soul mate more enjoyable. Many people have come to accept the online community as a place just as real as the offline world. Don't lose site of the goal but see if you can meet some friends along the way.

3. Be True To Yourself

You are who you are. That means be honest at all times. No need to exaggerate what you bring to the table. It's more than enough. If you meet someone who likes you but wishes you were a little more this way or that way then wish them well and move along. If they cannot accept you for who you are then in all truthfulness they are not worth your time. Getting to know someone can be half the fun. Meeting a person then expressing a direct or indirect desire to change them will only bring misery to both parties.
