Are You Deficient In Vitamin B Complex?
Feeling run down or depressed lately? Have eczema
, headaches or dry skin but can't seem to find a cause for your ailments? You just might be deficient in Vitamin B.
The B Vitamins, often grouped together and referred to as Vitamin B Complex, are important to nearly every function of the body. From supporting our immune system to helping us develop new blood cells and regulating hormone levels, they are critical to maintaining a healthy body.
Why Do We Become Deficient in B Vitamins?
There are many reasons we can become deficient in nutrients. Sometimes our bodies simply do not effectively absorb the nutrients from the foods we eat; this is often the case with the elderly. Sometimes we don't eat the right amounts of B-rich foods; often seen in vegetarians and vegans. At other times we simply don't eat enough of the right foods as is frequently seen in children who are picky eaters.
Fortunately, B vitamins are so important to our overall health, that they are often added to the foods we buy. "Fortified" or "enriched" labeling is a good indication that at least some of the B vitamins have been added to the food product. But there's another reason they're added to our foods - our bodies can't store these nutrients like they store calcium, for example. So we must constantly replenish them through our food intake.
It is because of their soluability, how much our bodies rely on them and how well we absorb, or don't absorb, the vitamins from our food that many adults and children are at risk of being deficient in these important nutrients.
Symptoms of Vitamin B Deficiencies
Since the B vitamins are so widespread throughout our bodies, they can affect any number of functions and, therefore, can cause several symptoms.
Symptoms of a possible Vitamin B deficiency include:
* General fatigue, tiredness or lethagy
* Muscle weakness or sore muscles and joints, possible tingling in the extremeties
* Anemia
* Loss of appetite and other GI symptoms including nausea
* Depression or anxiety
* Abdominal pain and muscle cramps
* Hair loss
* Skin disorders such as: eczema, dermatitis, dry skin and frequent bruising.
* Headaches, insomnia and irritability
As you can see this is quite a varied list of symptoms and many of them could be the result of other underlying medical conditions. That's why it is always recommended that you consult your physician if you have any symptoms that concern you.
Why Vitamin B Complex?
One reason Vitamin B Complex is so popular as a supplement is because it contains all of the B's in the appropriate amounts in one tablet. This allows each nutrient to work together to provide maximum benefit. In other words, taking one B on its own won't give you the same level of benefits as taking the entire group. Vitamin B Complex solves this problem by providing the proper amount and percentages of the B vitamins in relation to each other.
Supplementing your diet with Vitamin B Complex is a great way to ensure you're getting as much of these important nutrients as you need. Always check the label, though, to make sure you're getting the percentages you need. Soon you'll be back to feeling like your old self with energy to spare!
