Are You Doing Enough Physical Activity To Keep You From Disuse Syndrome?

We know for sure now that the negative symptoms of aging like succumbing to disease

and physical and mental decline are not there because of the aging process, They are there because of the muscle tissue loss that has happened slowly over a period of 30, 40 or more years - of disuse.

Most people once they get past 30 somehow believe that vigorous physical activity is not for them, it is more like it is an option or a choice. But it is not an optional extra it is a necessity if you want a strong healthy life. The human body not properly used will waste away into a frail weak shell. We see this all around us and more importantly we sometimes see it in our own families.

Then if we are not careful we will follow in those same footsteps. We see others slow down and 'take it easy' as they get older and we believe it is normal to do so as well.

This state of "disuse" not only makes you look and feel older it makes you act old and further become less and less active shunted into a downward spiral. Then we proceed to lose physical function bit by bit, fall apart and deteriorate.

It is strange that being independent is one of the most important possessions a human can own yet if you do not give your body what it needs to stay strong and therefore healthy you risk losing this independence. If your health has deteriorated to the point you can no longer take care of yourself all other possessions along with your dignity will be rendered irrelevant and meaningless.

The good news is as a health-conscious adult you can take responsibility for your own health and wellbeing and take immediate steps to begin the most important self help care strategy you can practice to make sure you do not go down this road. As there is not enough muscular 'work' that the human body must have to stay healthy in our modern 'easy' and 'convenient' world you need to implement a proper program of strength training exercise.

Do not be fooled into thinking that low intensity endurance type activities are strength training. Not walking or running on a treadmill or any other activity that involves contracting your muscles many times with little or no resistance does not prevent muscle tissue loss. What proper strength training weight-bearing exercise does is force your muscles and bones to continually renew themselves as old degenerated cells and tissues are swept away.

New tissue that is younger, stronger and healthier is rebuilt and this is what slows down and hold off the aging process like no other activity, program, doctor, surgeon, pill or hormone can. Right down at cellular level you will get a boost of the real Fountain of Youth.

So get yourself started on your proper program at your local gym or fitness center and be part of this new focus which is all about protecting yourself against the many degenerative diseases, illnesses and maladies that were once thought to be a natural part of aging. You have the power to never have it happen to you.
