If you do not have comprehensive car insurance in Florida, you may be in danger of losing your car even if you do not realize it. You may be very close to not having a car anymore or being stuck with a car that you cannot afford to fix. This is a troubling thought, isn't it? People in America are generally so dependent on cars because of the way that the cities and towns are laid out that they cannot get by without them. If this describes you, you need to take some steps to protect the vehicle that you own.

First, make sure that you actually understand all of the different types of policies that are out there, and what they can do for you. Make sure that you have a grasp of this so that you really know what you are purchasing. Not all insurance policies are the same. Some will pay to give you a brand new car if yours is totaled, they will not bring you the actual car, of course, but will pay you enough money that you can go out and buy one. Other plans will not pay for anything at all, however, but will instead pay only for the property that you damaged.

If you are unsure what type of plan you really have, make sure you ask your agent right away. A surprising amount of people makes this mistake every year. They think that they are fully covered by their car insurance in Florida. Then they get in an accident and find out that they are barely covered at all, that the company will not be paying them a cent. This can be incredibly discouraging; it can severely hurt your bank account in a way that you may never have suspected.

It is true that you do not have to have comprehensive insurance if you do not want it. In fact, there are some cases in which you are better off not having it at all. If your car is not worth much and you are just driving it until it dies with the idea that you will get a new one when it goes, you probably want to have the lowest level of insurance that you can. There is no point in paying a lot to protect something that you do not even care about owning.
