Since the dawn of man, we have always relied upon the plentiful bounty available in the seas or the land-locked freshwaters

. Fish have always been a part of our diet, providing us with essential oils, protein, vitamins, and minerals. While some of us not only enjoy the taste and benefits that we get from fish, others love the sport of catching them. Sports, and some commercial fishermen, rely on the tools of the trade, the fishing pole. And depending upon the situation, nothing comes in handy better than a fishing pole holder.

And what exactly does a fishing rod holder do? Well, besides the obvious, they can be actually be quite helpful depending upon the situation.

There are actually many different types of pole holders. These can basically be divided into three main categories; active fishing, mobile storage, or home storable holders.

Active fishing rod holders act as a device to hold the pole while you are waiting for the fish to bite your line. The type of active holder that is usually used on the bank or shore of a waterway is stuck into the ground. This type of object has an angled slot sitting upon the buried portion to allow the fisherman to set their pole within the holder and wait for the fish to take the bait.

Other forms of active holders are ones that are fixed to a stationary object. These can be like ones that are found fixed to the sides or rails of a sport fishing boat, or perhaps on a fishing pier. You can also get an active holder to mount to special objects like a wheelchair.

Mobile storage pole holders are used to transport the poles from one place to another, so that the poles do not become damaged or tangled. There are adjustable units that you can get that can go into the back of a pick up truck or in a boat.

Home storable holders are stationary units that are permanently installed in your residence or cabin. These can be commercially bought and installed, but hardcore fisherman may have them custom built to reflect their fishing enthusiasm.

As you have learned, a fishing pole holder is not just some invisible being that takes the pole, the holder actually takes a very important role, depending upon the particular situation. Perhaps your future fishing experience may one day dictate your need of a fishing pole holder.
