As the inactivity levels of us humans continues to decrease at an alarming rate we

are now facing a serious threat with not only a lack of proper exercise activity but a lack of general activity as well. The sixteen odd hours that we are awake is now spent in more sedentary behavior as we spend most of our day seated for long periods.

When you think about an average day, we get up, go in a car or bus to work, sit at our job, sit going back home then sit watching television or some other small screen in our leisure time. We have hardly had to move a muscle during the course of the entire day so there has been a lack of total body movement.

The problem with this is that the big powerful muscles of the body are totally immobilized when sitting so they cannot do their job in pushing enzymes around the body to process the fats and sugars in our bloodstream. This means these fats and sugars do not get burnt up for energy and hang around causing damage to the cells and tissues.

The muscular system of the human body is like lots of small pumps keeping everything moving around the body so when not moving for long periods everything slows down and the system gets clogged up. These prolonged periods of inactivity are now associated with a greater risk of chronic disease.


The human body relies on the stimulation of vigorous activity to cause the release of 'growth and repair' hormones that renew, replace, rebuild and repair. Without these hormones chemicals whisper to the cells to decay, degenerate and die.

It is hard to understand the logic behind the removal of every little bit of 'work' or anything that requires a bit of physical 'effort' from our lives. Why do we need our lives to be so easy, comfortable and convenient? Are we such a frail lot that a bit of work and effort is simply too much for us to handle?

If so, are we prepared to pay the extremely high price of one out of every two of us having at least one 'chronic lifestyle disease' and many having multiple conditions? These diseases are killers and cannot be cured once contracted. Heart disease, cancer and diabetes and dozens of others are all common in our modern world and people who sit a lot have two to three times the risk on ending up with one or more of them.


The only way to offset the reality of this risk is to get started and never stop on an intentional proper exercise program that contains mostly strength training exercise. If time is short just 2-3 sessions are all that is needed if the program is set up properly and the exercises are performed at the right level of intensity (effort). Anything less than this will not give good results or even zero results.

Think of your exercise program as essential preventive 'medicine'. It is not some frivolous luxury 'optional' item. If you want to stay well and live a long healthy life it is not going to happen without some effort on your part. It may not be what you really want to hear but these are the facts.

But you are lucky as you now know these facts and can take the appropriate action and get yourself moving. This would be the single most beneficial thing you could do for yourself to counter the inactivity of our modern world and protect your own health and wellness.
