Located in the Deccan Plateau, Nagpur is known as the orange capital of India because it is a major cultivator and trade centre of oranges
. It is the winter state capital of Maharashtra. Nagpur city is spread over a total area of 217.56 sq km. The location of this city is almost in the centre of the country. For this very reason, it has the Zero Mile Marker, which indicates the geographical centre of India.
The foundation of the city was laid by Bakht Buland Shah, who was the Gond King of Deogad, in 1703. It was named Nagpur because of the Nag River that flows through the city. There are a number of tourist attractions in and around the city. They include Gavilgad Fort, Dragon Palace Temple, Forts of Balapur, Adasa, Maharaj Baug and Zoo.
The distance from Nagpur to Mumbai is around 840 km. Mumbai city is actually a combination of seven islands that was reclaimed slowly. After occupation of the place, the Portuguese named it Bom Baia which in Portuguese language meant "good bay". The Britishers called it Bombay.
Mumbai, financial capital of India, took a quantum jump towards modernization when the first train in India ran between Bombay Victoria Terminus and Thane in 1853. Mumbai is home to several heritage sites, particularly the Gateway of India, which interests the travellers.

Mumbai is reachable from Nagpur by air, road and rail. The domestic airport of Nagpur lies close to the city centre, at a distance of 6 km. Major airlines have regular flights from Nagpur to Mumbai and back. Several trains pass through Nagpur. Among the daily superfast and express trains running from Nagpur to Mumbai are Shalimar-Lokmanya Tilak Express (No.18030), Howrah-Mumbai CST Gitanjali Express (No.12860), Gondia-Mumbai Vidarbha Express (No.12106), Nagpur-Mumbai CST Duronto Express (No.12290) and Nagpur-Mumbai Sewagram Express (No.12140). The train takes about 14 hours to reach the destination from Nagpur.
Regular bus services are available from Nagpur to Mumbai. The buses charge a fare ranging anything from Rs.800 to Rs.1500. The taxi services are also available from Nagpur to Mumbai and back. The taxi cabs charge a fare ranging from Rs.15 to Rs. 30 per kilometre depending on the type of vehicle the travellers prefer to hire. Travel by roadways takes more than 15 hours to cover the distance.
