Art deco diamond jewellery to go under the hammer
One of the most impressive diamond rings the jewellery world has ever set eyes on is to be sold at a London auction in the next few weeks.
Bonhams' Fine Jewellery auction will feature the rare six carat art deco diamond ring said to be worth around 200,000.
The reason this is a rare ring compared to other diamond rings is due to the fact it is a Type Ila diamond which is the purest form of diamond. This means it is completely white and does not have any yellow colourings or impurities.
According to an article published by Paul Fraser Collectibles, the jewellery auction will also feature two other impressive rings. This includes a 3 carat brilliant-cut diamond worth between 70,000 and 90,000 and a 5 carat pear shaped diamond ring worth between 80,000 and 100,000.
Due to take place on 22 September in London, the auction will also feature much sought after items such as Henry Philip Hope's catalogue of pearls and precious stones which was published in 1839 and is estimated to be worth around 3000. There will also be a collection of necklaces and diamonds from the 19th century.
The art deco movement was at its height between the 1920s and 1930s. Jewellery of this time was distinguished by using geometric shapes and bold colours. It was an attempt to produce something ultra modern. This movement was also seen in other areas of life such as architecture when looking at buildings such as the Chrysler Building in New York.
According to experts in the industry, investing in art deco and other antique pieces is a sure way to see a return in your investment. Certainly as the piece ages, it becomes rarer especially in regards to today's mass produced market. In this respect, the piece will actually go up in value from the moment it is purchased.
