As an educator, knowing how to influence young students and stubborn parents is an important part of the job, sometimes this can be agonizing. For years I had thought of learning techniques like NLP and covert hypnosis, hearing so much about their use in clinical therapy and healing. As excited as I was at the prospect of learning these techniques, doing so using fat old books with confusing jargons turned out to be a far bigger obstacle than I expected.
The second option was to go to a workshop or take a one on one classe with a Master practitioner.A tight schedule and the high cost involved in those ventures proved to be a no go. Then one day while randomly surfing the internet I came across a home study course ad which dealt with NLP and covert hypnosis. The cost involved wasn't much and I could go through the course as I pleased. Not too bad I thought and ordered it.I could always get my money back if I didn't like it ! No risk !
Art of Covert Hypnosis by Steven Peliari is the book i had ordered. The course is divided in 15 chapters which cover basics to advanced concepts. The information looks overwhelming at first but once I calmly went through the content structure I realized that it was rather well organized.
The first few chapters are pure theory.By breaking down the concepts, the jargons and the definitions, these chapters prepare the learner for the practical part. Although most people will be interested in practicing the techniques right away, I still prefer the way Mr.Peliari puts emphasis on explaining what each technique does before letting you use it.
The practical part I admit is the most interesting. These techniques can easily be practiced in any everyday situation on a member of the family or a friend and some of them even on the phone with someone. For example. In one chapter,he explains the eye cue and the sub-modalities technique which I was able to use instantly. After using them for half a day at my work place I grew quite good at determining wether a person is telling the truth or lying. Not only is this useful but also gave me a certain amount of confidence in my ability to learn these techniques.
I still have a couple of chapters left to study but from what I have learnt till now it seems that Steven Peliari's book the art of covert hypnosis' does the job pretty well. Here is some more info on the contents of the book.
