First lets talk about why do we need content in the first place? Everybody talks about it. The solution for every problem you could have on the web is Content. Do you need more traffic? Would you like better ranking?
Everybody wants it .The search engines just eat it up. So you see you cant have anything if you dont give the search engines what they want. And that is Content and also that is what is going to get indexed. Also the key to getting top ranking is simply more content. It is also the place where you put your links.

But what is it really or what do we mean by content? Well it is any page that gets indexed. Your article or page doesnt do you any good unless it is in the search engine where people can find it. You can also get a video on a blank page to rank.
So you see you have to have content to be ranked for something because content is the basis of ranking. Search engines rank sequences of words and that is the reason that content attracts long tale searches. And again content is the place we put our links and link text is the single biggest ranking factor.
